Our goal is to bring people together from all walks of life, transcending boundaries and uniting individuals through a shared humanity. However, it is important to recognise that history, has been influenced by colonialisation and racism. In this blog post, we will explore the impact of colonialisation and discuss ways to promote inclusivity and equality within your spaces.

1. Historical Context: Most structures and systems, including sport, education, the punitive systems, employment, and media - including film have its roots in colonialisation. The early days of all of these aspects were often dominated by individuals that dehumanised others and thus created a system whereby the rules were able to service and elevate their status. This in turn created the illusion and idea of material wealth, thereby allowing these wealthy individuals who had the resources and connections to participate in these activities. This exclusivity and discriminately enforced barriers for marginalised communities, preventing them from fully participating and excelling in any aspect of life.

2. Representation Matters: One of the key ways to address the impact of colonialisation by promoting diversity and representation. It is crucial to create opportunities for individuals from all backgrounds to participate and excel in all of these spaces without fearing judgement or dismissal for speaking about and centre lived experience. This can be done by promoting the voices and supporting initiatives that elevate historically excluded communities.

3. Education and Awareness: Raising awareness about the history of colonialisation is essential to promote understanding and empathy. By educating ourselves and others about the systemic barriers that have existed, we can work towards dismantling them and creating a more inclusive community.

4. Support organisations and Initiatives: There are several organisations and initiatives that are working towards promoting diversity and inclusivity. We highly encourage that these initiatives do not merely act as a performative and box-ticking measure, rather, one that is embedded into our organisations and supports our historically excluded groups. Race to the top makes it easy to support your organisations in taking steps towards anti-racism training and the importance of authentic inclusion of intersectional humans. Supporting us and other organisations through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness can make a significant impact. Some examples include programs that provide scholarships for aspiring racers from marginalised communities or initiatives that promote diversity

6. Provide leadership opportunities to historically excluded groups. The importance of having visibility in leadership spaces reflects the importance of representation. Highlighting and amplifying historically excluded groups is vital in spaces of leadership as there is currently a lack of these groups in positions of leadership in the Western world.

5. Allyship and Advocacy: As individuals, we can play a crucial role in promoting inclusivity by being allies and advocates. This can involve speaking up against racism and discrimination, supporting and amplifying the voices of underrepresented people, and actively working towards creating a more inclusive and equitable community.

In conclusion, understanding the impact of colonialisation is essential for creating a more inclusive and equitable world. By promoting diversity, representation, education, and support, we can work towards dismantling the systemic barriers that have existed and create communities that celebrate and embrace individuals from all backgrounds.

Let's race towards a future where everyone has an equal opportunity to reach the top.
